Cyst Excision

Clean, complete removal of sebaceous and other cysts as a minor day-care procedure — leaving the smallest possible scar and minimal chance of recurrence.

Cyst Excision

What it is

Cyst excision removes a cyst — most commonly a sebaceous or epidermoid cyst — together with its wall, which is the key to preventing recurrence. It is a quick, minor procedure done under local anaesthesia with careful, cosmetic closure.

Who it's for

  • A visible or palpable cyst or lump under the skin
  • Cysts that are growing, recurring or getting infected
  • Cysts in cosmetically sensitive areas
  • Anyone wanting a clean, complete removal

The procedure

Performed under local anaesthesia in 20–45 minutes in our minor-OT. The cyst and its wall are removed and the skin closed with fine sutures.

Recovery & aftercare

Mild soreness for a few days. Sutures are removed at five to ten days depending on the site. Normal activity resumes quickly.

Frequently asked

Will the cyst come back?+
Removing the entire cyst wall — not just draining it — is what prevents recurrence, and is how we do it.
Will there be a scar?+
A small, fine scar that we place and close carefully to be as discreet as possible.
Is it sent for testing?+
Where appropriate the removed tissue is sent for histology to confirm the diagnosis.
